Our Beliefs
School of Divinity, Regent University
Core Values
- Sound biblical, theological, and hermeneutical competence, which prioritizes the authority of the Bible as the inspired Word of God and results in "rightly dividing" the biblical text and sound theology;
- The renewal movement, which recognizes and encourages the contemporary expression of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in personal experience, ministry, and missions;
- The practical training and leadership development of men and women, which translates classroom experience into real life ministry application;
- World evangelization, which, as a primary biblical mandate, is at the very core of the Christian mission;
- Spiritual formation, which acknowledges that a student's character and personal integrity formulate the primary building blocks of all Christian ministry and service;
- The utilization of quality delivery systems to optimize the theological education experience in both on-campus and distance education formats;
- The preparation of Divinity students as future leaders in the various roles to which they are called.
Statement of Faith
Regent University is a Christ-centered
institution. The board of trustees, along with the faculty and staff
of the university, are committed to an evangelical interpretation and application
of the Christian faith. The campus community is closely identified with
the present-day renewal movement, which emphasizes the gifts, fruit and
ministries of the Holy Spirit. It is expected that all trustees, officers,
administrators, and faculty will subscribe to this statement in writing:
- The Holy Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative source of Christian doctrine and precept;
- There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost;
- Man was created in the image of God, but as a result of sin is lost and powerless to save himself;
- The only hope for man is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, the virgin-born son of God, who died to take upon Himself the punishment for the sin of mankind, who rose from the dead, so that by receiving Him as Savior and Lord, man is redeemed by His blood;
- Jesus Christ will personally return to Earth in power and glory;
- The Holy Spirit indwells those who receive Christ, for the purpose of enabling them to live righteous and holy lives;
- The Church is the body of Christ and is comprised of all who through belief in Christ have been spiritually regenerated by the indwelling Holy Spirit. The mission of the Church is world wide evangelization and the nurture and discipling of Christians. (Board of Trustees, Resolution #3, September 25, 1977).
Distinctives
The School of Divinity serves students from many church traditions and
backgrounds (denominational and independent). We desire to equip students
to minister effectively within their own church traditions and various
spheres of influence. In particular, we seek to serve students and churches
within the spiritual renewal movement. As an educational and faith community
we assume that students are active in ministry. Correspondingly, we seek
to encourage their growth in: spiritual formation, theological and biblical
integrity, the fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit, and commitment to the
Church and its outward thrust in evangelism and missions.
